Black sexuality with Nicole Goode

Introduction

In this episode, we dig into black sexuality in the larger context of life. Nicole Goode, who is a sociologist and sexologist, deals in healthy and unhealthy relationships and so much more. The sociological concepts around society norms and biases play a large role in how many people live their lives every day. The health of the black family unit has been affected by years of cultural and socio-economic experiences. The daily realities of racism, inequality and constant barriers take their toll when trying to do the most basic of tasks and reach goals. Our own toxicities also tend to compound the issues we face when looking inwards at ourselves before we can even attempt to work on relationships with others in our lives.

The correlation between economics and human sexuality is also explored. The value placed on things rather than the connection between people have been exploited especially in this age of reality TV. Bringing awareness to how black sexuality is viewed is the first step in learning how to build deep, transformational experiences with others. Being comfortable with yourself and honoring what you need so that you can offer yourself as a whole person versus someone looking to be completed is an inside job that you can do. As we chat about the many facets of black sexuality, we get into many different ideas and realities around how we value ourselves and others.

Like anything in life, to have a better relationship with yourself and others requires work. It requires a minimal level of emotional intelligence and desire to get better at owning who you are and deciding what you will do to continue to grow. Nicole has a whole school on how to start the journey of what is said above and so much more. She also offers partial scholarships for her program. Listen in as we lean in to this topic.
